Cable twist stitch

This is probably the simplest cable stitch, and gives the appearance of a twist running through your knitted fabric. You will need two knitting needles and cable needle to do this.

Abbreviations: k = knit; p = purl; st = stitch; C4B = Cable 4 Back (slip 2 stitches on to the cable needle and hold to the back of your work, knit 2 stitches and then knit the 2 stitches from your cable needle).

In our example, we wanted a relatively narrow twist, so we have two stitches in each section of the twist. You could make this bigger by having three stitches in each section of the twist.

We have three stitches in between each twist so that there is separation between each one.

Cast on 24 stitches (4 stitches for each twist, and three stitches in between each twist and at either side)

Row 1: p3, *k4, p3, repeat from * to end

Row 2: k3, *p4, k3, repeat from * to end

Row 3: p3, *C4B, p3, repeat from * to end

Row 4: as row 2

Repeat these four rows for pattern.
